Single items have been kept in files, albums and loosely within closed stacks since the 1930's and probably earlier. Inventory with storage info was done in the 1980's, after which materials were stored in no less than 8 separate locations within the library. Some were "borrowed" and never returned, others were sold or discarded without further record or notation about their discarding. Remaining collection materials have been accessible only to staff since 2007. The early inventories are kept, though the formal Small MSS collection is new as of 2016. The Small MSS inventory is the only comprehensive list of remaining Small MSS.
The creators vary, most have no donor information and are considered FIC. Some seem to have been separated from other known papers or collections, when this is confirmed the materials are reunited with their original collections.
|Scope & Content||The Miscellaneous collection/Small MSS includes a wide variety of materials, including: single items; ledgers, diaries and account books; folders of correspondence or papers; deeds and other legal documents.|
