Nathaniel Tarbox was born August 29, 1736 (written in front cover of notebook). He married Sarah Gillpatrick of Biddeford in 1761, and in 1763 their son Nathaniel was born in Biddeford. Date of death nor location of burial known -- does not appear to have been local (Maine). Possibly moved to Massachusetts, but not verified. |

Single volume notebook/diary belonging to Nathaniel Tarbox of Biddeford, covering activities from approximately 1759-1786. Includes entries about shipping aboard the Sloop "Speedwell" to Boston in 1759, beginning work on a sloop frame in 1759, and voyage aboard Sloop "Biddeford" to Halifax, N.S. in 1759. Otherwise full of accounts, work, notes, as well as a long poem in the back: "Be wise my friends and while you may - the fleeting hours employ - Nor mind what formal blockheads say - To fright you from your joy..." etc. From back of notebook: [Nathaniel Tarbox is my name Biddeford is my Station New England is my Dwelling place Christ is my Salvation] |
