Description |
Illustration of a typical English ship of 1630, and similar to the ships that brought Captain Richard Vines and his first settlers here in the summer of 1630. Captain Vines wintered here in 1616-1617 and came back in 1630 with his family, at the behest of his patron, Sir Fernando Gorges. He lived here from 1630 to 1645. This illustration was used by Dane Yorke in his "History and Stories of Biddeford", the copy made about 1945. Its origin is unknown. |
