Main Street during the mill lunch hour, Biddeford, 1912. Mill workers stand about the streets during the break, and a carriage turns the corner onto Washington Street. The City Building clock reads 12:48. J.G.C. Smith, whose cloak and suit shop sign appears on the second floor of the Washington Block, had been burned out of his regular store at the corner of Main and Franklin Streets (one block south) early in January 1912.
