Description |
Paquin Building, Washington Street, Biddeford, 1955. Washington Street looking toward Main. In the background can be seen the Nichols Building which was remodelled in 1939 from the Crystal Arcade (b.1852). The Paquin Building was the first real business building improvement to made on Washington Street. It was built by Joseph R. Paquin in 1924. People were so doubtful about the success of the building that it was nicknamed "Paquin's Folly" for several years. Note the Egyptian motif on the building, it is an example of the popularity of Egyptian art after the discovery of Tutankhamon's tomb in 1922. |
