Emma Hatch, City Librarian, circa 1900. Miss Hatch was the librarian for the City of Biddeford from October 1995 until 1937. She was honored as librarian emeritus from 1937 until her death in 1940. Born in Biddeford on December 14, 1861 as Rosa Emma Hatch. Graduate of Biddeford High School, class of 1880. She oversaw the transformation of the City Library from a city department in a single room in City Hall to the large, independent McArthur Library that stands today in the former Pavilion Congregational Church. Lived with older brother Charles Hatch until his death in 1927. Both are buried in family plot at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco. |
