The rounded corner of the Thacher Hotel/Biddeford House is visible, without its portico. This shows the building both after the belltower was added and after the addition of electrical and telegraph/telephone poles to the city in 1887.

Hotel Thacher, Main Street, Biddeford, 1955. Built in 1847 and opened as the "Biddeford House", this brick block with 100 rooms was the largest hotel in York County at the time. The name was later changed to honor Biddeford's famous Judge George Thacher, who was member of both the Continental Congress and then the first U.S. Congess in 1789.

First Universalist Church, City Square (confluence of Adams, Jefferson and South Streets), 1955. Built in 1867, the church steeple had to be lowered in 1954 because of hurricane damage. The Soldier's Monument at right was erected in 1887 as a memorial to Biddeford's veterans of the Civil War, 1861-1865. The church building has since been torn down, and a bank was built on the spot.
